Guide: DLCs

Hello There,

If you do not know already, Star Wars: Fallen Republic has been officially released! Go check it out on steam here.

With the mod released, and Stellaris having started its summer sale on Steam, it is time to look closer at DLCs and what they bring to Star Wars: Fallen Republic.

Before we start, it should be noted that the mod works without any DLCs and owning a specific DLC is therefore not a requirement for you to subscribe and play the mod. Also remember that when playing multiplayer, only the host needs the DLCs for the content to be unlocked for everyone playing.

This guide will not recommend any specific DLCs, but will instead highlight the features and content that each provides. Enabling you to make your own mind if you want to buy it or not.

Please note that this guide is only viable for the official initial release version of the mod. Any future DLCs locked content might not be covered here, though we will try and cover what might be introduced within the foreseeable future.

Species Packs

  • Plantoid.
  • Lithoids Species Pack
  • Humanoids Species Pack

As SW:FR uses custom made species, portraits, and ship models none of the species packs add any additional content to the mod.

Expansions

Utopia

ContentSW:FREmpires Affected
Dyson Spheres, Ring worlds.NONone
HabitatsNONone
Biological Mastery, Synthetic Evolution, Transcendance.NONone
Observation stations, NoNone
Advanced slavery; Battle Thralls and Domestic Servants.YesSome Empires.
Fanatic Purifier/ Hive MindYesNests of Nests

As SW:FR are using custom megastructures, none of them are limited to the Utopia DLC.
For advances slavery types, they are available for any nation that allows slavery. Which is quit a lot, so we will not mention all of them here. More empires will also make more direct use of the advances slavery types as we go further with species rights development on individual empire level.
The fallen empire Nests of Nests, is the only empire using the hive mind government form.

Apocalypse

ContentSW:FREmpires Affected
ColossusYesThe Empire
TitanNoNone
MaraudersNoNone
Ascension Perks and CivicsNoNone
Ion cannonsNoNone

In SW:FR, the Galactic Empire has the option to build the Death Star as the only colossus currently in the game. The Colossus can still be built and will fight without the DLC, due to us using custom ship sizes and not relying on the vanilla Stellaris Colossus ship size. What the DLCs add is the planet-killing ability of the Death Star.
Marauders might also be added back at some point.

Megacorp

ContentSWFREmpires Affected
MegaCorpsYesRepublic Loyalists, Hutt Cartel, Trade Federation, Intergalactic Banking Clan, Corporate Alliance, Black Sun Organization, Corporate Sector Authority.
EcumenopolisNoNone
CaravaneersNoNone
Matter Decompressor etc.NoNone
Galactic Slave MarketYesAll
Ascension perksNoNone

The Megacorp expansion adds the ability for some empires to have the corporate culture. This enables them to build Branch Offices (renamed Outposts). Two empires, in particular, rely more than others upon this mechanic. Hutt Cartel and Republic alliance. Though both can be played with the DLC they both have institution abilities that complement their ability to build outposts.

It should also be noted that because all planet types are custom defined, as well as the art, both light Ecumenopolis and full Ecumenopolis planets can be established without the DLC.

Federations

ContentSW:FREmpires Affected
Expanded Federation TypesNoNone
Galactic Community ResolutionsYesAll
Expanded OriginsNoNone
JuggernautNoNone
Federation Titan limitNoNone

In SW:FR the Galactic Community (Galactic Senate) works exactly like vanilla, meaning that there are some limitations in terms of resolutions that can be passed. Such as the Galactic Council or Denouncements.

All Federations are custom made, and does not make use of the advanced federation types. The Juggernaut, might see a comeback to the mod at a later stage.

Story Packs

ContentSW:FREmpires Affected
Ancient RelicsNoNone
Archaeological siteNoNone
Precursor civilizationsYesALL
Relic WorldsNoNone
Minor ArtifactsYesAll

As all relics and archaeological sites are custom-made, none of the once from vanilla remains. We might reintroduce some of the archaeological sites in the future but with Star Wars flavored texts.

Minor Artifacts are used to study Precursor civilizations and is the only way to get the technology for at least two megastructures, Star Forge, and Infinity Gates. Furthermore, a relic can also be gained by studying Precursor civilizations.
Please note that there are no precursor event chains or home worlds like the Baol in base Stellaris. Precursors only appear as empires to be studies using minor artifacts.

Distant Stars

ContentSW:FREmpires Affected
L-ClusterNoNone
New AnomaliesYesAll

Some of the events have been rewritten into star wars flavored events, with more to be added later.
Currently only the Scavenger Bot leviathan is in the mod. More might be added more in the future.
